Patti Puccio Sportsmanship Award

The Patti Puccio Sportsmanship Award dates back to 1969 when Marion Hill and Jack Boumeester were selected as the first award recipients.  The Sportsmanship Award continues to be presented annually at the FSC of Madison Spring Banquet to a Club member who exemplifies the high standards described below.  In 2016, it was named after Patti Puccio, a 40+ year skating parent and FSCM supporter who continues to make our club great!

Sportsmanship Award Criteria
Nominees should be member skaters who best exemplify the ideals of sportsmanship, including but not limited to: fairness, civility, honesty, unselfishness, respect of the rules, setting a good example and acting responsibly.  This might be demonstrated by:
  • Encouraging and supporting all skaters
  • Respecting and accepting judges' decisions
  • Congratulating other skaters when they win
  • Showing that doing one’s best is more important than winning
  • Resolving conflicts without resorting to hostility or aggressive behavior
  • Volunteering for activities beyond personal skating time that help to promote the club and figure skating in general

Sportsmanship Award Process
  1. Nominations from the coaches as they see all of our skaters across practices and competitions
  2. Inclusive of all club members – first and second club members
  3. The coaches' nominations are presented to the board where the finalist is selected

Dorothy Sinykin Trophy

The Dorothy Sinykin Memorial Perpetual Trophy was established in 2007 in recognition of Dorothy's dedication to the Figure Skating Club of Madison and to the sport of figure skating.  The trophy is awarded each year at our annual competition, The Madison Open, to the Intermediate Ladies Championship Finals first place skater.  The skater's name is added to the permanent trophy on display at the Madison Ice Arena and the skater receives a special individual Dorothy Sinykin trophy.
