Pat Puccio Sportsmanship Award

The Patti Puccio Sportsmanship Award dates back to 1969 when Marion Hill and Jack Boumeester were selected as the first award recipients.  The Sportsmanship Award continues to be presented annually at the FSC of Madison Spring Banquet to a Club member who exemplifies the high standards described below.  In 2016, it was named after Patti Puccio, a 40+ year skating parent and FSCM supporter who continues to make our club great!

Sportsmanship Award Criteria
Nominees should be member skaters who best exemplify the ideals of sportsmanship, including but not limited to: fairness, civility, honesty, unselfishness, respect of the rules, setting a good example and acting responsibly.  This might be demonstrated by:
  • Encouraging and supporting all skaters
  • Respecting and accepting judges' decisions
  • Congratulating other skaters when they win
  • Showing that doing one’s best is more important than winning
  • Resolving conflicts without resorting to hostility or aggressive behavior
  • Volunteering for activities beyond personal skating time that help to promote the club and figure skating in general

Sportsmanship Award Process
  1. Nominations from the coaches as they see all of our skaters across practices and competitions
  2. Nominations from board members in consideration of the impact the skater has on the club as a whole
  3. Inclusive of all first club members
  4. All nominations are presented to the board where the finalist is selected

FSCM Member of the Year Award

Reintroduced in 2021, the Member of the Year Award recognizes an active adult Figure Skating Club of Madison member who selflessly and generously volunteers above and beyond at club events and activities that celebrate and bring our community together.

Member of the Year Award Criteria
The recipient of this award is a resourceful problem-solver who perseveres in adversity, inspires members to participate in the club, collaborates with others to positively promote the club, and is dedicated to the betterment and advancement of the sport of skating.

Member of the Year Award Process:
  1. Nominations for the Member of the Year Award are collected annually in April from the membership.
  2. The Figure Skating Club of Madison Board considers all nominations and selects an award recipient.
  3.  The Member of the Year Award is presented at the year-end banquet and awards ceremony held each spring.

This award may or may not be awarded annually.
