Trevor Laak
Personal ProfileI currently serve primarily as a consultant to other coaches and their skaters throughout Wisconsin and Illinois. I teach free skating, moves in the field, and pairs but my passion is teaching jumps. As a jump specialist, I use both computer video analysis and a pole harness in my daily lessons. These tools greatly speed learning while removing the fear and danger many skaters associate with multi-rotation jumps.
I've been coaching since 1999, and I work with skaters of all ability levels, from beginners just learning their first jumps and spins to elite athletes perfecting triples. My experience with elite athletes has proven that learning proper jump technique right from the beginning is critical to long term success. Due to my passion for jumps, I have sought out the very best mentors in our sport. Some of my mentors include Olympic coaches Audrey Weisiger, Michelle Leigh, and Oleg Vassiliev. Other mentors include Chris Conte, one of the top computer video analysis expert in the world, and world renown spin specialists Bobbe Shire and Charyl Brusch. To share the information I've learned from these and other amazing coaches, I created www.iCoachSkating.com (please type in the address to your browser). Today, iCoachSkating.com has become the premiere online video educational resource for coaches and skaters. |
Professional Coaching NotesI love to share my knowledge of jumping and skating. I've presented at a number of seminars and workshops including the 2008 and 2009 Wisconsin State PSA Workshops, an ISI District Seminar in 2009, and the prestigious 2011 PSA World Conference in Dallas. I’m also a faculty member of Grassroots to Champions, the seminar company formed by Olympic coach Audrey Weisiger.
I have a graduate research degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. I hold 6 patents and I’ve provided technical consulting for a number of Fortune 500 companies. |
Contact InformationAs noted above, I work exclusively as a consultant to other coaches and their skaters. This prevents any potential conflicts of interest and allows me to comfortably work with over a hundred skaters each year. If you would like to have a lesson with me, please discuss it with your primary coach and have them contact me.
